Mpumalanga Black Aces were beaten 3-1 in an Absa Premiership clash against Orlando Pirates at the Mbombela Stadium on Sunday. The victory was needed for a struggling Pirates side who have been performing below their standards in the league. This match was very high paced and attacking from the very beginning.
The Buccaneers went ahead first through a spectacular Thabo Rakhale volley after just five minutes of play. Black Aces were finding it hard to deal with the visitors’pace, but equalised six minutes later with a near post goal from former Sea Robber Collins Mbesuma. The two teams were clearly going at each other as they had a reply for each other’s goals as well as attacking moves.
Eric Tinkler’s team performed better after the first half and were looking to score the goal that would put them ahead of their opponents. Finally after a display of impressive football and dominating possession, the Soweto giants went ahead with a long range goal from Tendai Ndoro which was actually meant to be a cross but made its way into the back of the net. Tinkler’s troops did not stop there and went on to score their third of the match with another goal from Ndoro in the 86th minute.
The win should take a bit of pressure off Tinkler after becoming the first team to defeat Amazayoni at home in the league this season. The win for Pirates takes them back into the top half of the log in seventh place with 26 points while Mushin Ertugral’s men stay in fourth place with 36 points.
