Pirates Handed Tough Draw

Orlando Pirates will play in Group B of the CAF Confederation Cup should they progress past Guinea’s AS Kaloum in the final preliminary round.  The draw took place on Tuesday in Cairo and Pirates potentially play powerhouses of the African continent like Egypt’s Zamalek and CS Sfaxien of Tunisia.  The latter squares off against ASEC Mimosas, the club the Buccaneers defeated in 1995 to win the Champions League.

The Soweto giants could also again face Congo’s AC Leopards, who they met in the Champions League two years ago.  The winners of the following match ups will contest Group B:

Zamalek (Egypt) vs Sanga Balende (DR Congo)
CS Sfaxien (Tunisia) vs ASEC Mimosas (Cote d’Ivoire)
AC Leopards (Congo) vs Warri Wolves (Nigeria)
Orlando Pirates (South Africa) vs AS Kaloum (Guinea)

Group A will be made up of the victors in the following contests:

Al Ahly (Egypt) vs Club Africain (Tunisia)
Esperance (Tunisia) vs Hearts of Oak (Ghana)
Etoile du Sahel (Tunisia) vs Raja Athletic Club (Morocco)
AS Vita (DR Congo) vs Stade Malien (Mali)
