Petra Kvitova has qualified for the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global, to be held at the Singapore Sports Hub from October 17-26, 2014. Kvitova joins Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova and Simona Halep in the eight-person field, with the final four spots to be determined at the remaining WTA events during the Asian Swing. Kvitova secured her spot in the WTA Finals by winning her third title of 2014, and 14th of her career, at the inaugural Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open by defeating Eugenie Bouchard in the final.
Earlier this year, Kvitova captured her second Grand Slam title, winning the Championships at Wimbledon for the second time in four years. The Czech also triumphed at the Connecticut Open presented by United Technologies (New Haven) and has won at least two events in each of her last four seasons. Kvitova will return to the WTA Finals for the fourth consecutive year.
She won the Billie Jean King Trophy in her debut in 2011 and advanced to the semi-finals in 2013. “Reaching the WTA Finals will be a great way to end the season and I’m so excited to qualify for the fourth year in a row. I have great memories from winning the event in 2011 and look forward to competing with the best players in the world once again, this time in Singapore,” said Kvitova. “Petra has had a great year resulting in her qualifying for the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore for the fourth consecutive year. Her overall consistency throughout the year is a testament to her incredible talent, and fans in Singapore will love watching her exciting style of tennis,” said WTA Chairman and CEO Stacey Allaster.
The 2014 WTA Finals will feature the Top 8 singles players in the world competing in a round-robin event, and Top 8 doubles teams competing in a single-elimination draw. Tickets for the general public can be purchased through Sports Hub Tix wtafinals.sportshubtix.sg
