The Perth Scorchers crept over the line on Tuesday to defeat the Lahore Lions by three wickets in the Champions League T20 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Perth won the toss and the decision was paying dividends when Lahore found themselves 11/4 in the fourth over. Joel Paris had Nasir Jamshed caught by Brad Hogg for 1 before bowling Umar Siddiq for the same score.
Mitchell Marsh (2/12) got in on the act by clean bowling Mohammad Hafeez for a duck and Wahab Riaz for the same score, but caught by Ashton Agar. Saad Nasim and Umar Akmal added 43 before Akmal fell for 26 off 19 balls to Hogg (1/24), caught by substitute fielder Jason Behrendorff. Mohammed Saeed was next to go when he was castled by Paris (3/22) for 20 but not before adding 48 runs with Nasim. At the end of the innings Asif Raza was not out on 2 but Nasim was the best Lion scoring an unbeaten 69 off 55 balls including seven fours and a six.
In reply the Scorchers were also losing wickets at regular intervals. Craig Simmons was first out caught by Siddiq off Haffeez without scoring. Sam Whiteman did not trouble the scorers either as he was caught by Raza off Aizaaz Cheema (1/18).
Ashton Turner was the next man out for just 4 when he was caught by Riaz off Mustafa Iqbal. Opener Cameron Bancroft was bowled by Iqbal (2/20) for 22 off 18 balls. Agar was next to go cheaply when he was clean bowled by Hafeez (2/8) for just 5.
Hilton Cartwright did not last long either. The middle order batsmen departed for 2 when he was stumped by Akmal off Nasim (1/26) and the Western Australians were 40/6. Yasir Arafat hung around for 13 balls before he was run out for 3 thanks to the handy work of Cheema and Nasim.
Marsh and Hogg were the heroes for the Australian side. The pair added 68 unbeaten runs to see their side over the line. Marsh smashed 63 from 38 with seven fours and a six while Hogg hammered 28 from 19 with two fours and a pair of sixes as Perth came home with one over to spare.
