The Women Proteas suffered a six-wicket defeat in the second women’s T20 to Pakistan in a low scoring match that sees the latter take an unassailable, 2-0 lead in the three-match series at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday. South Africa was restricted to 83/6 after winning the toss and electing to bat first. The batters once again struggled to put runs on the board.
Suné Luus and Lizelle Lee top scored with 23 and 22 runs respectively, followed by Dané Van Niekerk with 14 to round off the most notable performances. Pakistan’s Asmavia Iqbal and Anam Amin did well with the ball in hand, taking 2/12 and 2/25 respectively to quell the visitors’ run scoring. South Africa started out well with the ball.
Shabnim Ismail ran Marian Iqbal out for four, while Van Niekerk removed Javeria Khan for five, but Bismah Maroof and Iqbal hit an unbeaten 30 and 21 runs respectively to lead their side to victory. The visitors will hope to avoid a series white wash when they meet Pakistan on Sunday.
