Soweto giants Orlando Pirates beat Polokwane City by three goals to none at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday afternoon and picked up three valuable Absa Premiership points. The Buccaneers went to this match as the favourites after they defeated Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday 3-0. The visitors started the match brightly with the man in form Kermit Erasmus looking to score more goals for his side.
After 20 minutes it was still 0-0 and Pirates were bossing the game. In the 30th minute Erasmus slotted the ball right footed into the goal with Patrick Phungwayo providing the assist for the goal. Phungwayo looked lively on the left hand side as he produced another cross but Elias Ngwepe made a clearance. In the 42nd minute the new boy Thabo Qalinge scored a cracker of a goal and gave Pirates a two goal advantage.
Mpho Makola provided the assist as the match reached half-time with Vladimir Vermezovic’s men very much in charge. In the second half the Sea Robbers were looking to continue where they left off and the home side were up against it as they were chasing a
two goal deficit. Pirates brought on Lehlohonolo Majoro for Erasmus and in the 64th minute Qalinge was stretched off the field after a knock on his back. Daine Klate was the substitute.
Klate pulled off a shot just outside the 18-yard box and the ball kissed the top nets of the goal post. In the 85th minute Majoro made a great finish after a mistake from the Polokwane defence and it completed a 3-0 rout.
