Orlando Pirates emerged victorious with a 2-1 Absa Premiership win against Ajax Cape Town at the Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday. The Buccaneers were looking for a win coming off of a morale boosting victory against rivals Kaizer Chiefs and that is exactly what they got against the home side. Pirates took the lead in the 18th minute with a header from Kermit Erasmus from a cross by Ntsikelelo Nyauza.
The Sea Robbers doubled their lead in the 23rd minute with a goal from striker Lehlohonolo Majoro, who scored his first league goal of the season in stunning fashion. The glory for the away side was short lived when the Urban Warriors scored four minutes later when a dangerous cross came into the six yard box causing defender Edwin Gyimah to put the ball into the back of his own net. The first half was a very attacking and fast paced one.
The second half saw both teams looking to score. Ajax was trying very hard to get the equaliser but to no avail. Felipe Ovono made a fantastic double save stemming from a shot by Abbubaker Mobara on the hour mark of the match.
The closest Roger De Sa’s side came to scoring the leveller was in the 79th minute when a shot from Toriq Losper hit the crossbar with Ovono clearly beaten. There were no further goals in the Mother City. The visitors pick up three points and their second league win in a row.
