Orlando Pirates defeated AS Kaloum 4-1 on the day and 6-1 on aggregate in their CAF Confederation Cup play-off encounter at the Bidvest Stadium on Saturday. The visiting side looked the most lively in the opening stages and had a great chance in the 14th minute when Kabongo Kassongo found some space in the Pirates box but sent his shot wide. However it was the home side that got the opening goal through Kermit Erasmus who tapped one in from close range.
Both teams looked to gain the momentum but the score remained unchanged at the half-time break. In the second stanza the Guinean side got their equaliser through Alseny Camara. However parity did not last that long as Thamsanqa Gabuza scored a brace to give the Buccaneers a 3-1 lead before the hour mark.
In the 75th minute Eric Tinkler’s side extended their lead when Oupa Manyisa and Sifiso Myeni combined to net their side’s fourth of the match. The men from Johannesburg stood strong and ran out 4-1 winners on the day and 6-1 victors on aggregate to advance to the Confederation Cup Group Stages.
