Andy Murray won his US Open fourth round tie against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 7-5, 7-5, 6-4 on Monday at Flushing Meadows. The eighth seeded Scot was the underdog coming into the encounter considering the Frenchman’s good hard court form this season. However the ninth seed committed 43 unforced errors on his way to defeat in the Big Apple.
Murray will meet top seed Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals after the Serb won in straight sets over Philipp Kohlschreiber at the Louis Armstrong Stadium. The world number one powered past the German 6-1, 7-5, 6-3 in New York.
In the night session Australian Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka progressed in his match against Tommy Robredo 7-5, 4-6, 7-6, 6-2 in just over three hours at the Louis Armstrong Stadium.
