Novak Djokovic Makes The Flushing Meadows Final Four

Novak Djokovic dropped his first US Open set in 2014 but still won 7-6, 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 over Andy Murray  in the men’s singles quarter-finals at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Wednesday.  The world number one is hoping to add his second Major of the year to his collection under coach Boris Becker.  The Serb was also the Wimbledon winner and will meet Kei Nishikori in the final four.

Nishikori played his second straight five-set epic in New York to reach the semi-finals.  The Japanese saw off Australian Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka 3-6, 7-5, 7-6, 6-7, 6-4 in a four hours and 15 minutes after spending a similar amount of time on court earlier in the tournament to defeat Canada’s Milos Raonic.  Wawrinka outserved the 24-year old 18 aces to three and even hit more winners (68-41) but it was his 78 unforced errors (compared to the tenth seed’s 51) that ultimately cost him.
