Stan Stunned At Roland Garros As Nadal, Djokovic Advance

Australian Open champions Stanislas Wawrinka suffered a first round elimination at Roland Garros at the hands of Guillermo Garcia on Monday.  Garcia took the first set 6-4 before the Swiss hit back 7-5.  After that it was a rout as the Spaniard dominated with an iron grip to wrap up the upset 6-2, 6-0.  Earlier, eight-times Roland Garros champion Rafael Nadal annihilated Robbie Ginepri 6-0, 6-3, 6-0 in the first round in Paris.

Nadal was merciless as he dropped just three games to the American all match.  World number two Novak Djokovic slammed Joao Sousa 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 to earn his 33rd straight first-round victory at the French Open.  The Serb continues to reinforce his mark in the year’s second Major.  Djokovic has never lost a first round match on the red dirt in Paris.

The 25-year old Portuguese Sousa, who fought till the third round at last year’s US Open, was relatively determined after the rain delay, which might have afforded his nerves to calm down, but it just was not his day.  In the men’s singles there were also wins for Marin Cilic, Gilles Simon and Marcel Granollers.
