Nico Rosberg won for the first time this year when he held off team mate, Lewis Hamilton to claim victory at the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday. Sebastian Vettel came in third to keep Ferrari’s hopes in the Constructor’s race alive. Hamilton was sluggish off the line which saw Vettel sneak past him.
Things didn’t go McLaren’s way as Jenson Button was dropping places dramatically due to failing engine power. Thereafter, crowd favourite Fernando Alonso’s race came to an end when his brakes failed. Valtteri Bottas of Williams finished fourth after resisting a late attack from Kimi Raikkonen in the second Ferrari.
Felipe Massa claimed sixth place ahead of Australian Daniel Ricciardo of Red Bull and Romain Grosjean of Lotus. Carlos Sainz Jnr of Scuderia Toro Rosso finished in ninth place followed by a brilliant drive from Daniil Kvyat in the second Red Bull to complete the scorer’s list. The three-stop strategy that was referred to as Plan B for Hamilton led him to outrace the fighting men from Ferrari who aren’t making the Championship any easier for Mercedes.
A disappointing day for the home track faithful as Alonso had a bad day but it another successful Sunday for Mercedes.
