Lasith Malinga and Mitchell McClenaghan combined with seven wickets to help the Mumbai Indians claim a 20 run Indian Premier League victory over the Sunrisers Hyderbad at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday.
The hosts came into this match having won just one match from six starts in their 2015 campaign but the Sunrisers were also having a tough start with only two victories in their five starts. Needless to say both teams needed a win.
Simmons and Parthiv Patel gave the hosts a decent start with an opening stand of 42 off 38 balls but then Dale Steyn (4-0-38-2) had Patel caught at fine leg. Simmons and Rohit Sharma added 51 for the third wicket off 33 balls which provided a good platform and launched Mumbai to a score of 157/8 in their 20 overs.
Shikhar Dhawan and David Warner gave the Sunrisers a good start to their chase with an opening stand of 45. Then Malinga and Mclenaghen combined well to claim the all-important wicket of Dhawan and the visitors struggled to truly recover finishing 137/8. Malinga and Mclenaghen both ended with impressive stats of 4-1-23-4 and 4-0-20-3 respectively to hand Mumbai only their second win of the season and keep their slim playoff hopes alive.
