Mosimane & Komphela Confident Ahead Of TKO Final

The 2015 Telkom Knockout Final is set to bring two of the most revered coaches in South Africa together in a classic encounter at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Wednesday, 16 December.  Mamelodi Sundowns’ Pitso Mosimane will be appearing in his eighth cup final as a coach, to go with numerous as a player, and has tasted recent success when he helped The Brazilians to Nedbank Cup success at the end of last season.  At the other end of the spectrum is Kaizer Chiefs’ Steve Komphela who will be looking at winning silverware with the Soweto giants and this year’s Telkom Knockout gives the coach the opportunity to do just that.

Komphela will certainly cement his place in the hearts of the fans should he guide Amakhosi to cup glory.  The Glamour Boys boss says:  ‘With Kaizer Chiefs, when you come here, you accept the job and you just have to know that you have to come to finals and not only be there but win it.  We will do everything in our strength to win it for our supporters.’  Sundowns coach, Mosimane has claimed victory in three of his seven cup final appearances and this will be his fourth final against Chiefs, having won the previous three, the victory coming 2004 Top 8 decider.

But this would also be a period of disappointment for the then SuperSport coach as they lost to Chiefs in the 2004 League Cup and 2006 Top 8, to Bloemfontein Celtic in the 2005 Top 8, and to Jomo Cosmos in the 2005 League Cup.  He too knows that any Sundowns coach is judged on the silverware he delivers to the trophy cabinet at Chloorkop and as such defeat in Durban would be a blow.  Mosimane says:  ‘The Telkom Knockout is important to us.  When I first came here we went to the final, last year we lost in the semi-final.  This cup has been drifting away from us, so we must try and bring it closer to us.  It’s important for the confidence of the team and the supporters.’

The Telkom Knockout Final will be played in front of a sold out Moses Mabhida Stadium at 18:00 on the Day of Reconciliation (16 December) and is set to be one of the most memorable cup ties for the 2015/16 season.
