Maritzburg United and the University of Pretoria failed to capitalise on their numerous chances as they shared the spoils in a 0-0 Absa Premiership draw at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday evening. Mohammed Anas, the brace hero against Orlando Pirates in midweek, got the first chance of the game in the 12th minute but his shot went over the bar from close range. Six minutes later it was the visitors who came knocking as Thabo Mnyamane did well to create space for himself but his effort went a few inches wide.
Poor finishing from both sides saw the match go to half-time with the score still 0-0. AmaTuks’ Thabo Mosadi came close to breaking the deadlock just nine minutes after the break but his shot was tipped away by goalkeeper Virgil Vries. Misfiring continued as both sides failed to score.
Mondli Cele wasted an opportunity after the hour mark when he was picked out by Abel Mabaso but again blasted over the bar. Tebogo Monyai failed to give Tuks the lead as his header went wide of the mark. Vries made sure the score remained 0-0 after pulling off a fine save eight minutes before full time denying Geoffrey Massa with his thunderous shot.
Both sides continued to fire blanks and were let down in front of goal as they claimed a point each.
