Maria Sharapova will meet Simona Halep in the 2014 Roland Garros final on Saturday. Sharapova needed three sets to defeat Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard on Thursday in Paris. The Russian overcame Bouchard 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 as she bids to win her second French Open title after claiming her maiden victory in the French capital in 2012; a victory that ensured she became one of a select few to have won all four Majors.
Meanwhile Halep will be looking for her maiden Major on Saturday. The Romanian saw off Andrea Petkovic is straight sets 6-2, 7-6. Alarmingly for the fourth seed is that she is 0-3 against Sharapova in their career head-to-head statistics. There most recent meeting was in the final in Madrid; their only clay court battle to date, won by the world number eight 1-6, 6-2, 6-3.
