A mesmerising performance from Manchester United saw the Red Devils crush Norwich City 4-0 at Old Trafford in Ryan Giggs’ first match in charge. Giggs was a very happy man on his debut as his side put on an emphatic display. The match began with Wayne Rooney taking a shot at goal in the fourth minute.
Rooney’s right footed attempt was blocked after a beautiful assist from Danny Welbeck. Ten minutes later Welbeck took matters into his own hands but his right footed attempt was also saved. As Man United kept on attacking the Norwich defence were kept on their toes.
Antonio Valencia was assisted by Welbeck when his shot was also blocked. Shinji Kagawa took a shot from a difficult angle which was also blocked as the hosts piled on the pressure. The first booking of the night went against the Canaries as Jonny Howson was shown the yellow card for a bad foul.
Welbeck was fouled in the penalty area which saw United awarded a penalty shot. Rooney did his team proud by making the most it and the home team were in front. At half time Ryan Giggs and his side were in front with a goal to nothing. An exciting start to the second half saw Rooney score the second goal for the Red Devils. Soon after another Welbeck attempt was saved.
Nemanja Vidic’s header from a corner went too high over the post before Rooney tried for his hat-trick as his attempt was saved yet again. Rooney was denied yet again moments later by the woodwork but the rebound fell to fresh substitute Juan Mata who made no mistake and it was 3-0. The Spaniard had only been on the field three minutes after coming on for Welbeck.
Mata did it again in the 73rd minute when he scored his second goal of the match and a fourth for Man United. Three points were in the bag for Manchester United after a free flowing game where they caned the Canaries 4-0 and looked something like their old selves again.
