Manchester City’s Uefa Champions League aspirations hang in the balance after Mousa Doumbia scored a brace as CSKA Moscow defeated City in a Group E encounter on Wednesday. The visitors opened the scoring in the first minute when they were awarded a free kick which was dispatched by Doumdia. However the hosts were back on level terms seven minutes later when they were awarded a free kick of their own which was beautifully struck by Yaya Toure past Igor Akinfeev.
The Russian side were creating chances at will and looked the most likely to score again which they did through Doumdia who bagged his second of the night with a neat tap in to beat Joe Hart just before half-time. The visitors had the best of the possession and chances throughout the game. Man City struggled to find a way to draw level and were reduced to ten men when Fernandinho received a second yellow.
CSKA were able to hold on to their lead as they recorded their second win of the tournament emerging 2-1 victors over Manuel Pellegrini’s men.
