A goal a piece from David Silva and James Milner helped Manchester City overcome a stubborn Leicester City 2 – 0 at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night in the English Premier League. The champions started brightly and completely controlled the opening exchanges. Nigel Pearson’s side did well to stifle the hosts early on but City’s pressure eventually told.
It took longer than expected but seconds away from the half-time whistle and the Citizens finally unlocked the visitors’ stubborn defence. Silva weaved his way into the box and tucked a determined finish into the bottom corner of the net. The away side responded well after the break and they created a few chances but again the home side eventually found a way.
Milner netted the goal that killed the game in the 88th minute. The Foxes will be proud of their display. On another day they could have been awarded two penalties but he will know time is running out in their fight against relegation. For Manuel Pellegrini’s side, they will be relieved to pick up three vital points and continue their hunt for Premier League glory.
The defending champions next face Arsenal in the league on the 14th of March.
