Manchester City defeated West Ham United 2-0 at Etihad Stadium in the English Premier League on Sunday. City went on the early attack but the first attempt at goal came in the 10th minute only. Aleksander Kolarov’s left footed shot was blocked.
David Silva also took a shot at goal a minute later but his attempt was also blocked. The Citizens kept on heading to the post but were yet to score. Sergio Aguero’s attempt missed as it was too high following a corner.
An unexpected opening came in the 18th minute. A lack of communication and poor defending saw an own goal from James Collins. West Ham players continued chasing shadows as they could not get near the home players.
The Hammers finally headed to the post but Carlton Cole’s left footed shot was saved. Jesus Navas was given a yellow card for a bad foul before a beautiful pass from Navas to Aguero saw him find the back of the net. The first half ended 2-0 to the hosts.
The second half started with no real action from both teams. Silva was given a yellow card for a bad foul before a double substitution was made by Sam Allardyce. Kevin Nolan replaced Cole and Matthew Jarvis came on for Alexandre Song.
Cheikhou Kouyate was given a yellow card for a bad foul on Silva. The Spaniard had to be carried off the field due to his injury and was replaced by Samir Nasri. The match ended with City winning 2-0.
