Sergio Aguero’s solitary goal secured maximum points for Manchester City against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Sunday. The two sides locked horns already knowing the fate of the Premier League title. The home side settled first and looked more solid in all aspects inside the opening minutes of the game.
Surprisingly it was the Citizens that almost opened the scoring in the 11th minute but Aguero failed to send his volley goalwards. City enjoyed a good spell heading to the half hour mark and made it count in the 28th minute. A great team play by the visitors saw Aguero feasting to make it 1-0 with his 22nd of the campaign.
Spurs failed to level matters before the break as Manuel Pellegrini’s men continued to dominate proceedings. No changes were made as the two sides came out for the second stanza. Spurs came close to leveling matters in the 61st minute but Harry Kane failed to squeeze the ball past Joe Hart.
City quickly turned the game and almost scored a goal of their own but Aguero failed to convert. The visitors created fouls for fun in the latter stages of the match while still trying in vein to double their lead. Mauricio Pochettino’s team came close to stealing a point in the 83rd minute but were denied by a superb Hart save keeping at bay a venomous Paulinho attempt.
Tottenham looked more aggressive inside the additional minutes but Hart kept repeating his heroics and ensured a 1-0 scoreline in favour of the Blues.
