Mamelodi Sundowns Snatch Late Win Over University Of Pretoria

Mamelodi Sundowns needed extra time to defeat the University of Pretoria at the Loftus Stadium on Saturday in the Telkom Knockout.  This Tshwane derby started at a high pace as Sundowns were attacking more.  Themba Zwane missed a perfect shot as his ball flew high over the post in the 17th minute.

A beautiful trick followed by Cuthbert Malajila but the ball fell into Washington Arubi’s hands.  Arubi had his job cut out for him as Downs kept on attacking.  A foul by Sifiso Nzimande on Ramahlwe Mphahlele saw him shown a yellow card.

Finally in the 35th minute Tebogo Langerman fired a shot which was deflected by Zwane and ended up in the back of the net.  This goal put Masandawana in the lead by half-time.  The second half started with both teams fired up.

A yellow card was shown to Teko Modise for a foul on Thabo Mosadi in the 55th minute.  Mzikayise Mashaba came in as a replacement for Surprise Moriri.  Vuyisile Ntombayithethi got a yellow card for a foul on Modise.

Geoffery Massa beat Kennedy Mweene at the post as he scored the equalizer for AmaTuks in the 73rd minute and it was game on.  Zwane went off to make way for Mame Niang.  Then followed some beautiful play by Mashaba who managed to dribble the ball past two players but couldn’t get a goal to finish.

Langerman was shown a yellow card for a bad foul before the match ended was forced into extra time.  Eight minutes into the additional 30 minutes and it was the hosts who reaped the rewards of their work as Elias Pelembe scored a much needed second goal from long range.  Malajila got a yellow card for a foul before Massa almost scored an equaliser for Tuks before the game ended.  However Mosimane’s side held on to win 2-1 and progress to the quarter-finals.
