Mamelodi Sundowns narrowly beat Ajax Cape Town 2-1 in an eye catching Absa Premiership clash on Saturday night at the Lucas ‘Masterpieces’ Moripe Stadium on Saturday night. Masandawana dominated proceedings from the onset looking to put themselves in a comfortable position as the game progressed. Anthony Laffor almost put his side in front in the seventh minute in what was his last goal attempt of the match as he was substituted after colliding with Brandon Peterson in the 14th minute.
After several failed attempts, the home side found the breakthrough in the 24th minute when a clinical Alje Schut header kissed the net to make it 1-0 putting to good use a well taken Teko Modise set piece. Cuthbert Malajila and Khama Billiat wasted their chances to make it 2-0 before the break as Pitso Mosimane’s men held on to their slender lead heading to the tunnel. The Brazilians had their demons haunting them again in the 54th minute when Tashreeq Morris equalised for the visitors.
The home side rekindled their fire and pushed forward looking to regain their lead but a series of misfired shots meant the scoreline remained at 1-1 after the hour mark. Bafana Ba Style were at it again in the 83rd minute, this time provider turned scorer as Teko Modise put his side in front feasting on a superb Kuda Mahachi assist. Ka Bo Yellow held on to their lead until the final whistle giving their fans an early Christmas present present after what has been a bumpy first round of fixtures this season.
