The Absa Premiership encounter at the Peter Mokaba Stadium saw Mamelodi Sundowns thrash Polokwane City 3-0 on Sunday to record their third win in a row. In the first 20 minutes Polokwane were the better team as they created multiple goal scoring chances. They were not able to take advantage of those opportunities though as no goals came.
Thabo Zwane was given a yellow card in the 31st minute. Great team work from Teko Modise and Elias Pelembe resulted in creating a wonderful chance at goal for Sundowns. Cuthbert Malajila was at the right place at the right time when his touch of the ball put Masandawana in the lead in the 35th minute.
This was how the first half ended for both teams. The second half started on a hyper note for Downs as Hlompho Kekana fired a powerful shot which was on target but his shot was punched away. Mzikayise Mashaba then came on for Surprise Moriri in the 56th minute.
Themba Zwane, in the 59th minute, scored the second goal for the Brazilians after an assist from Malajila. Roger Malafa made way for Raymond Monama. Shortly after Linda Shiba came on for Sifiso Mbhele.
Katlego Mashego replaced Malajila. Mashego’s first touch of the ball was toward the goal but his attempt went wide. Modise sealed the win for the visitors as he scored the third goal of the match in the 73rd minute. After 92 minutes Rise and Shine had their first shot on target but the ball fell into Kennedy Mweene’s arms. The game ended with Sundowns winning 3-0.
