Mamelodi Sundowns beat Moroka Swallows 2-0 at the Dobsonville Stadium on Wednesday evening in an evenly matched Absa Premiership clash. Swallows were the first to attack with purpose just after the ten minute mark as neither side managed to get real chances at goal. The Brazilians were awarded a free kick in the 15th minute but, Mario Boysen sent his header wide putting to waste a well taken Teko Modise set piece.
Both sides continued to exchange evenly matched blows deep into the opening half but Greg Etafia almost handed Masandawana a lead in the 30th minute only to be saved by Tsietsi Mahoa’s goal mouth clearance keeping the match at 0-0 at the break and saving his teammates from some blushes. Pitso Mosimane’s men gelled well going forward but were let down by poor final touches. The teams played like settling for a draw was the best option until Mame Niang produced a brilliant finish from close range at the near post in the 53rd minute to put the visitors in front.
The Dube Birds had a handful of chances to level matters but it wasn’t to be and it got even worse in the 79th minute when Lantshene Phalane was shown a second yellow card and had to leave the pitch for an early shower. Downs piled more misery on the ten man army of Zeca Marques as Kudakwashe Mahachi slotted home for the visitors’ second of the night in the 83rd minute. Try as they did, the sky was limited for the birds as Sundowns bagged maximum points to what Mosimane hopes will kick start their season.
