Cuthbert Malajila and Khama Billiat were on the score sheet for Mamelodi Sundowns in their 2-0 Absa Premiership victory over Free State Stars at the Lucas “Masterpieces” Moripe Stadium on Saturday night. Masandawana kicked off the match in a high tempo looking to punish their visitors early on in the match. It took just twelve minutes for Pitso Mosimane’s men to get in front when Malajila nodded home for his fifth of the season to make it 1-0.
As the match progressed Stars were pushed further back by the persistent Brazilians. Mosimane was forced to replace Malajila in the 30th minute with the striker making way for Anthony Laffor. The home side had a handful of opportunities to extend their lead before half-time but failed to utilise their chances as the match went to the break with Ea Lla Koto only trailing by a single goal.
The second stanza was not different from the first. Downs continued to dictate matters looking for a convincing lead. Billiat scored the second goal of the night to make it 2-0 in the 62nd minute following a defensive error by the visitors.
The boys from Bethlehem never looked like they would score from the onset and there surely wouldn’t be any miracles after they were two goals down. The hosts held on to their lead till the final whistle and snatched all three points to boost their morale heading to the next game against Orlando Pirates.
