Mamelodi Sundowns beat AmaZulu 2-0 at Loftus Stadium on Sunday afternoon in an Absa Premiership match. Both teams went to the match coming from defeats, and therefore were looking to bounce back with maximum points. After ten minutes it was
still deadlocked with no clear chances from both teams.
In the 21st minute John Arwua was fouled by Teko Modise and the visitors were awarded a free kick. The header from Sadat Akorinko hits the woodwork and the home side survived. After that chance, Pitso Mosimane’s men started to threaten Usuthu’s
defence but Tapoa Kapini kept them at bay as Craig Rosslee’s side defended in numbers and the match went to half-time still 0-0.
In the second half the Brazilians started well as they were pushing more players forward. The KZN side were defending deep and looking to hit Downs on the counter attack. In the 54th minute Kapini made a great save after a powerful shot from Hlompo Kekana’s free kick, but in the 59th minute a good cross from Lebohang Langerman presented a free header opportunity for Cuthbert Malajila who beat Kapini to hand the hosts a 1-0 lead.
The same man again Malajila made it 2-0 for Mosimane’s men after a super pass from Surprise Moriri in the 65th minute of the match. Come the 72nd minute Moriri was replaced by Ejike Uzoenyi as he was making his debut and almost provided the assist but Elias Pelembe missed the tap in. Malajila missed a chance to make it three but it would not matter as Sundowns returned to winning ways.
