Mamelodi Sundowns defeated Platinum Stars 3-1 at Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Sunday in the Nedbank Cup Last 16. A fantastic game from both teams saw the Brazilians progress. In the first half no one had the upper hand with both teams dominating ball possession at times.
It was also very physical as the referee had to blow his whistle on several occasions but finally the two Zwanes, Themba and Siyanda, on the right flank combined well and created a beautiful team goal for Mzikayise Mashaba to slot home and open the scoring. Just before the first half ended the former Sundowns marksman, Eleazar Rodgers came back to haunt the capital club as he slotted home a lose ball following an off target shot from Ndumiso Mabena. In the second half, Downs came back more driven and determined.
The stanza started slowly before Khama Billiat scored a goal, putting his team in the lead. Dikwena tried to recover but they could not. Minutes before the referee blew the final whistle Hlompo Kekana slotted a brilliant third goal for Pitso Mosimane’s team as the match ended 3-1.
