Malawi defeated Zambia 60-34 in their Netball Diamond Challenge clash on Thursday at the Ugu Sports Centre in Margate Durban. The East Africans progressed to the finals of the tournament with the overcoming of their opponents. The former led from start to finish but the first two quarters were hotly contested. Chipolopolo drew level 5-5 in the first quarter but lost their way to fall behind 15-8 by the end of the period.
The latter tried to fight back in the second quarter but found their opponents too difficult to penetrate. With the Malawians surging forward throughout the quarter, they closed the first half with a nine point lead; 26-17. The Zambians continued to struggle after returning from the break as their opponents took the game to them.
The third quarter ending with the score standing at 43-21. The final quarter was a mere formality as the Malawians rounded off an excellent performance. The win means they will face South Africa on in the final of the Diamond Challenge tournament.
