2011 US Open champion Novak Djokovic will face five-time Flushing Meadows winner Roger Federer in Sunday’s final in New York. Djokovic downed defending champion Marin Cilic 6-0, 6-1, 6-2 in sensational fashion at the Arthur Ashe Stadium on Friday. In the late match Federer saw off fellow Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka 6-4, 6-3, 6-1 to set up a repeat of this year’s Wimbledon final.
Meanwhile, South Africa’s Lloyd Harris’ Big Apple adventure is over after losing in the Junior Boys’ doubles semi-finals. Teaming up with Japan’s Yosuke Watanuki, Harris was on the receiving end of a 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 defeat to American duo Brandon Holt and Riley Smith. The South African and Japanese started well by taking the first set but when the 73-minute match was over it was the team on the other side of the court that was through to the final.
The 18-year old’s exit from the tournament brings South Africa’s interest in the 2015 US Open to an end.
