Liverpool convincingly beat Stoke City 4-1 at Anfield on Sunday in an entertaining English Premier League encounter. It was the battle for eighth spot between two sides looking to end the season in a respectable position. The Reds kicked off the encounter on a positive note, netting a goal in the eighth minute through a superb Alberto Moreno strike.
The visitors refused to lie down and let their opponents walk over them. In the 22nd minute Bojan Krkic levelled matters feasting on a superb Xherdan Shaqiri freekick. The home side took a slender lead to the half hour mark thanks to a Daniel Sturridge header.
Simon Mignolet was called upon on several occasions in the opening stanza and he did enough to ensure a 2-1 lead to his side at the break. Five minutes after the restart, Divock Origi slotted home for his side to make it 3-1 to Liverpool. In the 54th minute, Mignolet was called upon once again, this time denying Geoff Cameron’s goal bound header.
Then in the 57th minute Firmino tested the keeper but it was not enough to extend the lead. In the 63rd minute, Origi doubled his tally making it 4-1 to the Merseysiders. City tried to cut the deficit in the latter stages of the encounter but the home side refused to cave in and held on to win the encounter 4-1.
