Liverpool earned a hard fought 2-1 FA Cup Fifth Round win over Liverpool at Selhurst Park on Saturday. The Reds now have a quarter-final match to look forward to but it did not look likely in the 15th minute when Fraizer Campbell netted a goal which came as a result of a rebound from Dwight Gayle. He was at the right place at the right time and put his team in 1-0 lead.
Adam Lallana managed a shot on target but it was saved. Next Martin Skrtel’s header missed to the right following a set piece as the visitors pressed. Jordan Henderson was the first one to receive a yellow card in this game after a foul on Gayle.
Daniel Sturridge had an attempt blocked before Joe Allen missed to the right as he looked for the perfect finish. A yellow card was later given to Marouane Chamakh as the match went to half-time 1-0 to the Eagles. Alan Pardew’s side had an early second half goal attempt by Jason Puncheon but his shot was too high.
The 49th minute saw the match balance change as Sturridge pulled one back for the away side to level the score. The intensity of the game increased as both teams were looking to take the lead. The 58th minute saw a breakthrough when Lallana scored the second goal for Brendan Rodgers’ side.
Palace was not showing enough of a fight afterwards as the fixture ended 2-1 to the Merseyside club.
