Liverpool defeated Swansea 1-0 in a closely contested English Premier League game at Anfield in the late kick off on Sunday. The Reds started brightly as they were unlucky not take the lead when Jordan Ibe went through on goal only to be tackled by Kyle Bartley. The tackle saw the ball fly off Bartley’s boot and rattled his own post.
The hosts continued to press and it looked like only a matter of time until they took the lead but it did not come as Garry Monk’s men started to get into the game. It was 0-0 at half-time with no real chance of note for either side. The second half had much of the same pattern as the first as Juergen Klopp’s men pushed for the opener which eventually arrived as a cross from Ibe struck the hand of Swans defender Neil Taylor in the box and a penalty was awarded.
James Milner stood up and rifled home the spot kick, smashing it straight down the middle. Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge then both came off the bench to make their long awaited returns from their respective injuries and were given a rousing applause by the Anfield crowd. As in the first half Monk’s men grew into the game and pushed for an equaliser in the final 15 minutes.
Liverpool having thrown away numerous 1-0 leads at home this season looked nervous going into the final 10 minutes but they managed to hold on for the 1-0 win and gain a vital three points.
