Mamelodi Sundowns continue their treble chase after completing a 3-1 win over Mbombela United in Saturday’s Nedbank Cup clash at the Lucas Moripe Stadium. Sundowns had a brilliant start as Keagan Dolly opened the scoring after combining well with Khama Billiat mid-way through the first half. Themba Zwane did all the hard work to free up Cuthbert Malajila to put the ball in the back of the net to double the advantage in the second half.
The game changed completely as the visitors were pressing highly for some consolation. Snethemba Mnguni gave the NFD outfit a goal from a re-bound from Themba Thomo’s powerful shot. Suddenly it was 2-1 and the Mpumalanga-based team thought they had equalised but the lineseman called for an offside which the side disputed.
They went all out to celebrate while the referee allowed play to continue. In the end, Zwane provided a cool finish from Billiat to secure a 3-1 victory for the Tshwane side, who might have been forced into extra time under different circumstances.
