Mpumalanga Black Aces outclassed Maritzburg United in the Last 16 Nedbank Cup clash at the Kwanyamazane Stadium on Saturday. The home side wasted a perfect opportunity to go upfront as Bhongolwethu Jayiya directed a good ball to Denis Masina but it did not cause any danger. Mushin Ertugal’s men cracked the breakthrough after Jayiya was bought down and Collins Mbesuma converted from the penalty spot.
Zamuxolo Ngalo rised high to connect to Aubrey Mngoma’s cross but his header was wide. Aces nearly doubled the lead in the second half as Mngoma’s low cross fell inches short of the left boot of Zambian Mbesuma. Amazayoni pressed for the second goal as Masina’s volley deflected wide midway through the second half.
The visitors failed to pose a threat to come back into the game after that. Limbikani Mzava gave his team a comfortable lead through a stunning free kick to deny any hope for the Team of Choice. In the end, Ertugral’s bunch recorded afifth quarter-final in the last nine editions of the Nedbank Cup.
