Bidvest Wits recorded a convincing 6-0 hammering of Magesi FC in a Nedbank Cup Last 16 clash on Friday at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane. Wits ran the show to march on to the quarter-finals of this year’s tournament thanks to four goals by Daine Klate, a Sibusiso Vilakazi strike and an own goal. On paper, Gavin Hunt’s side was heavily favoured to oust the minnows from the tournament but Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates fans would have reminded the Clever Boys of the likes of Baroka FC and Maluti FET College.
Things started well for the visitors as Klate managed to put his side in the lead inside 25 minutes before John Seete’s own goal increased the lead. Klate completed his brace before half-time and at 3-0 the Johannesburg club was crusing. The second stanza saw the travelling side snatch the fourth goal from Klate before Sibusiso Vilakazi registered his name on the scoresheet.
The rout was complete by Klate through a sublime header. It is a great win for Hunt’s charges as they prepare for the quarter-finals but first they will have to prepare for an Absa Premiership clash against Jomo Cosmos.
