Zambia Held By Congo

Zambia was held to a 1-1 draw by Congo at the fully-packed Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier clash in Ndola on Wednesday.  Both teams came into the game sitting on four points and keen for the win.  The home side had many opportunities to bury the game inside the first half.

Collins Mbesuma chipped a great ball to find AC Leopards striker Winston Kalengo, but his volley went over the bar.  Captain Rainford Kalaba saw his shot go wide as George Lwandamina’s side continued to search for an opener.  Nathan Sinkala went close but his effort hit the post.

Chipolopolo continued to be in control of the game in the second stanza.  Eventually, Winston Kalengo managed to muscle through the Congolesee defence and netted a beautiful opening goal. The Red Devils came into the game after this and the likes of Thievy Bifouma and Fabrice Nguessi Ondama troubled the Zambian defence.

All the hard work paid off as Cesaire Gandze scored an equaliser after the defence failed to clear the loose ball inside the box.  In the end, Lwandamina will be very disappointing with this result being held on home turf after having taken the lead.
