Platinum Stars kept a sixth consecutive clean sheet at home as Ndumiso Mabena’s lone strike sealed a 1-0 victory over Mpumalanga Black Aces in Sunday’s Absa Premiership match at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium. Stars started strongly as Edward Tshabalala played an excellent pass to pick Bonginkosi Ntuli, but Ashraf Hendricks cleared the danger. Masibusisane Zongo had his set-piece collected by Jackson Mabokgwane easily as the scores remained level.
The home side lost Ntuli due to injury and Eleazar Rodgers came on. The first attempt on goal for the visitors came after Aubrey Mngoma directed a good ball, but it went wide. The second half started busily as both teams were attacking with intent.
Tlou Segolela was denied by Mabokgwane before Aces nearly opened the scoring as Collins Mbesuma’s effort went wide. Zongo’s freekick struck the cross bar as the hosts continued to press for a goal. Cavin Johnson’s side broke the deadlock through Mabena in the last 20 minutes of the game.
Defender Sboniso Gumede joined the action in place of Zongo as Dikwena looked to protect their lead. Amazayoni nearly found the equaliser but Aubrey Modiba’s shot went wide. In the end, the Rustenburg club won their 12th game of the season.
