Lions Win At Home

The Lions beat the Waratahs 27-22 in an exciting Super Rugby match on Saturday night in Johannesburg.  Michael Cheika’s men were out to cement their place at the summit of the Australian Conference at the expense of the South African outfit.  It took just five minutes for the home troops to get their noses in front but failed to maintain the lead.  The Tahs found themselves leading 8-7 heading to the 20th minute.

The hosts clawed back and regained their lead and thanks to a 34th minute try by Ruan Combrinck they were 17-10 up at the break.  Johan Ackermann saw his side edging closer and closer to victory early on in the second stanza.  A handful of penalties and a superb try by Harold Vorster in the 47th minute saw the home side taking a 17-point lead heading to the 50th minute.

In the 57th minute the Tahs pulled one back through Rob Horne to make it 27-22.  There would be no comeback for the visitors as Ackermann’s men held on to their lead to the sound of the hooter.
