Chani Scheepers And Li Na Knocked Out Of Roland Garros

South Africa’s Chani Scheepers was eliminated in the Roland Garros first round on Tuesday after a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Spain’s Silvia Soler-Espinoza.  In the late finish, Italian Sara Errani needed a third set to put Madison Keys away.  Errani took the first set 7-5 before the American hit back 6-3.  The deciding set was no contest though as the Italian swept past Keys 6-1 to book her second round spot.

2008 champion Ana Ivanovic is also through.  The Serb slashed Caroline Garcia 6-1, 6-3 while another former world number one Jelena Jankovic stopped Sharon Fichman 5-7, 6-1, 6-3.

Earlier,Australian Open champion Li Na was a 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 first round casualty at the hands of France’s Kristina Mladenovic.  The 2011 French Open winner had to fight back after surrendering the first set but was emphatically vanquished in the deciding set.  Earlier on Philippe Chatrier fourth seed Simona Halep hit Alisa Kleybanova like an express train.  The Romanian romped home 6-0, 6-2 as the Russian was left with no answer.
