Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur played to a pulsating 1-1 draw in the English Premier League at the King Power Stadium on Saturday. Dele Alli opened the scoring in the 81st minute with the assistance from Nacer Chadli. Harry Kane, with his great turn, slipped through the ball to Chadli, spotted Alli and sent the ball to Alli, who headed home to make it 1-0 and Spurs thought they had it won.
In a matter of seconds, the hosts responded. Riyad Mahrez curled in a beautiful effort after Jamie Vardy’s delivery to level matters. Before the two goals, however, it was a fairly even game. Leicester had a few convincing attacks on goal which it failed to convert because of a lack of composure.
The Foxes won plenty of free kicks but could not convert any of them into goals. For Spurs, Mousa Dembele made a great attempt front outside the box, cutting in to his left and delivered a powerful shot but Kasper Schmeichel did well to save it. In an attempt to find an opening, Jamie Vardy did well to cross the ball into the box but no one was there for the header.
Despite all their efforts, the match went into half-time goalless. The second stanza started slowly with the sides failing to string passes together. No team looked threatening in the final third.
In the 56th minute, Danny Drinkwater almost gave the hosts the lead. He made a good quick run towards the goal and fired in a low shot but it went wide. Within a few moments of Drinkwater’s attempt, Kane slid through the Leicester defence into the box and almost slotted it in but could not trouble Schmeichel.
Both sides will move on from this draw now with Mauricio Pochettino’s players next taking on Newcastle United while Claudio Ranieri’s men take on Bournemouth.
