Late Winner For Orlando Pirates Against Bidvest Wits

Orlando Pirates snatched a 1-0 victory over Bidvest Wits in a catchy Absa Premiership match at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday night.  The
Sea Robbers dominated proceedings from the onset pushing forward for an early opener but were caught napping in the third minute but Senzo Meyiwa produced a brilliant double save to deny Wits from scoring.  Vladimir Vermezovic was forced to make an early change replacing the injured Thandani Ntshumayelo with Daine Klate in the 30th minute.

Gavin Hunt’s troops looked positive behind enemy lines but failed to find their way past the stiff Buccaneers defence.  Neither side managed to make their attempts count as the match remained goalless at the break.  The second stanza saw Wits pushing further back as the Ghost
kept coming from all angles looking to dirty the score sheet.

Both sides continued to exchange healthy blows heading to the hour mark but no goals came of it.  Mpho Makola sliced the Clever Boys defence in the 62nd minute to open room for a shot but his attempt was blocked as Lehlohonolo Majoro was introduced in place of Kermit Erasmus minutes later.  Rowen Fernandez made a great save to deny Makola from a free kick in the 74th minute.

irates came close in the 80th minute when a great team play set up Majoro whose shot was well saved by the keeper.  As the match looked to remain goalless at the final whistle, Siyabonga Sangweni unleashed a lethal shot from outside the box striking it against the post and bouncing at the back of Fernandez for a goal.  The Buccaneers held on to win the match 1-0 and climbed to third spot on the log.
