Late Strike Seals SuperSport United Victory In Telkom Knockout

SuperSport United beat Free State Stars 1-0 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday afternoon in the Telkom Knockout first round.  Both teams went to the match looking to progress to the last 16 and after ten minutes it was still 0-0 but in
the 11th minute Bradley Grobler had a chance to put his side in front but the keeper made a good save.  The home side dominated in ball possession but not creating clear cut chances and it remained goalless.

Paulus Masehe was cautioned by the referee in the 32nd minute after he fouled Dave Wome.  Grobler was replaced by David Mathebula in the 43rd minute after suffering a knee injury as the match went to half-time 0-0.  In the second half Gordon Igusund’s men were looking to make use of their chances but the visitors were looking to hit Matsatsantsa on the counter-attack.  After seventy minutes it was still 0-0 as the match was looking like going to extra time and maybe even penalties.

Wome had shot on target but Ayanda Mtshali made a great save in the 77th minute.  In the 80th minute Wome got the breakthrough for SuperSport as he slotted the ball in the back of the net to put Igesund’s side 1-0 up.  The home side managed to hold on to their lead and progress to the Last 16.
