Martin Skrtel netted an equaliser deep into injury time as 10-man Liverpool salvaged a 2-2 draw at home to Arsenal in the English Premier League on Sunday. The Reds were the better team, dominating the possession but failed to make use of the many chances they created. The hosts almost took an early lead Lazar Markovic’s pass found Adam Lallana’s run into the Gunners box but he drove his effort over the crossbar.
Philippe Coutinho collected inside the box and fired a low shot off the post to give Brendan Rodgers’ boys the lead. It did not take long for the visitors to be back in the game with Mathieu Debuchy equalising for Arsene Wenger’s side just seconds later to ensure a 1-1 scoreline at half-time.
Olivier Giroud puts Wenger’s men ahead with a close-range finish in the 65th minute. Try as they may the home side simply could not score. The fixture was delayed by some six minutes when Giroud accidentally stepped on Skrtel’s head.
However the Slovakian was heavily strapped up around his head and continued … and just as well for Rodgers. After five minutes of added time, the defender rose above the defence to head home from a corner and secure a point for the Merseysiders.
