Ajax Cape Town shocked Moroka Swallows at the Dobsonville Stadium in the Absa Premiership on Friday to leapfrog the Dube Birds. Despite Swallows dominating the whole 90 minutes, they would go down to the Urban Warriors. Eleven minutes into the game Lefa Tsutsulupa missed an outstanding opportunity when he found a gap between the defenders but the ball missed the post by inches.
After 24 minutes there were no goals with only three attempts at goal with two for the hosts. Nazeer Allie got penalised for a handball which saw Greg Etafia taking the free kick in the 25th minute. In the 26th minute Felix Obada gave a free kick away for an unfair challenge on Thulani Hlatshwayo.
Another free kick was awarded for an unfair challenge on Siyabonga Nomvethe. Obada’s 36th minute header went over the frame of the goal posts. Shortly after a corner was taken by Dikgang Mabalane but was cleared by Allie before the sides went in for the half-time break goalless.
The second half started of with a free kick being awarded to Swallows but the Ajax defenders were on the ball. In the 64th minute Mabalane was replaced by Vuyisile Wana. He then conceded a free kick for a foul on Mosa Lebusa. Nomvethe’s chance to score saw the ball flying over the cross bar in the 77th minute.
Soon after Lerato Chabangu joined the game as he replaced Giorgi Nergadze. In the 88th minute Nomvethe lost his composure as he went one-on-one with the keeper and his ball went wide. A last minute strike by Lance Davids produced a jaw dropping goal from a set piece for Ajax. Final score was a goal to nil for Roger De Sa’s side as Zeca Marques was left wondering why.
