Kolkata Sink Sunrisers

Kolkata Knight Riders won by 35 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Eden Gardens on Monday.  The defending champions won the toss and put the Knight Riders outfit in to bat.  Gautam Gambhir’s men had an excellent start.

They had 57 runs on the board before the first wicket fell– that of Gambhir(31) who got a top edge off the bowling of Karn Sharma (2/24).   Robin Uthappa (30) and Andre Russell (1) built a partnership of 25 runs before Uthappa became Bipul Sharma’s second wicket.  Bipul Sharma (1/23) helped take Russell as the third wicket.

After losing their third wicket, the Knight Riders started gaining control of the game.  The fourth wicket of Manish Pandey (33) came with 105 runs on the board.  Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/42) and Karn Sharma (2/24) took two wickets, while Moises Henriques (1/20) also chipped in.

The hosts finished their 20 overs with a score of 167/8.  Hyderabad failed to successfully reach the required score as they ran out of balls with only 133 on the board for the loss of nine wickets.  A two-wicket over by Umesh Yadav (2/34) set off what became a wicket fest throughout the innings.

David Warner (4) and Naman Ojha (0) fell at the hands of Yadav with only six runs on the board.  By 55 runs they had lost four wickets.  It was a bad start and they couldn’t recover from it.  Henriques (41) tried to push forward but was stopped by Brad Hogg.

Yadav and Hogg scooped two wickets while Russell and Johan Botha claimed one wicket each.
