The Kolkata Knight Riders defeated the Perth Scorchers by three wickets in the Champions League T20 on Wednesday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.The Scorchers won the toss and batted and started off well with a 68-run opening stand. The partnership between Adam Voges and Craig Simmons was broke when the latter was stumped by Robin Uthappa off Kuldeep Yadav after 9 overs.
Simmons scored 39 from 30 balls, hitting six fours and a maximum along the way. Mitchell Marsh did not last long before he was dismissed in identical fashion for four and Perth were 81/2. Voges and Sam Whiteman added 39 runs from 35 deliveries before Whiteman was caught by Yadav off Sunil Narine for 21 off 16 balls which featured two boundaries, including a six.
Voges continued making merry while wickets fell around him. Yadav (3/24) caught and bowled Nathan Coulter-Nile for a duck before Narine bowled both Asthon Agar (4) and Ashton Turner (0) to leave the Western Australians on 132/6 after 18 overs. Yasir Arafat hung around to add 10 before he was caught by Gautam Gambhir off Narine (4/31).
Voges top scored with an unbeaten, blistering 71 off 52 deliveries which featured eight fours and a six as the Aussies posted 151/7 in their 20 overs. The Knight Riders were in early trouble when Gambhir (2) and Jacques Kallis were back int eh hut early on and they found themselves on 13/2 after 2.5 overs. Uthappa (23) and Manish Pandey knuckled down for a 24-run partnership before the opener was caught behind Whiteman off Coulter-Nile.
Pandey was bowled by Coulter-Nile for 24 before Ryan ten Doeschate was caught by Agar off Arafat, who found himself among the wickets as he dismissed Yusuf Pathan (21 off 20) and bowled Andre Russell for 4 on his way to 3/39. However the Pakistani would suffer the indignity of having the winning runs hit off of his bowling. Suryakumar Yadav hammered an unbeaten 43 off 19 balls with one four and four sixes to power Kolkata to victory.
