The Kolkata Knights Riders beat the Lahore Lions by four wickets at the Hyderabad Stadium on Sunday to record their second win of the 2014 Champions League T20. Lahore got off to a great start posting 47 runs after six overs but after four balls, a direct hit from Andre Russell sent Nasir Jamshed back to the pavillion for 10, as they were 50/1. Ahmed Shehzad continued to attack Knights Riders bowlers and reached the
halfway mark at 71/1 but Mohammed Hafeez fell for 9 in the 11th over but at 75/2 it was still looking good for a big score.
Shehzad brought up his half century off 36 balls but in the 13th over Piyush Chawla got him for 59 runs and the Lions were 91/3. The Magician, Sunil Narine, got the wicket of Saad Nasim for a duck and suddenly there was trouble at 98/4 after 13.5 overs. Narine notched his second wicket when Umar Saddiq departed for 2 off four balls and the next ball he cleaned bowled Asif Raza for a duck that left Lahore on 103/6.
Umar Akmal’s quick 40 runs pushed the Pakistan side’s score to 151/7 with Narine finishing with a superb 3/9 in his 4 overs. Kolkata openers Robin Uthappa and Gautam Gambhir gave their team a great start. After 10 overs they were 82/0 and well on course for victory.
Gambhir brought up his half century off 40 balls in the 12th over and the Knights Riders were 98/0. However after bringing up the century stand, Uthappa was clean bowled by Adnan Rasool for 46 runs. Manvinder Bisla joined Gambhir as they were looking to finish off the match as quickly as possible.
Gambhir was clean bowled for 60 by Iqbal after 14.2 overs and it was 113/2. Five balls later the Knight Riders lost another wicket as Bisla was gone for 6. Yusuf Pathan was sent packing by Cheema for 11 after hitting a maximum and the Indians were 135/4 but still in control of the match with wickets in hand.
Wahab Riaz got his man Ryan ten Doeschate but going into the last over Kolkata needed 5 runs off 6 balls. Even though Russell lost his wicket, Suryakumar Yadav finished off the match with a four as Kolkata Knight Riders won by 4 wickets.
