Kings XI Punjab won by 22 runs in the Indian Premier League against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the MCA International Stadium on Wednesday. Virat Kohli won the toss and put the Kings XI outfit to bat. Due to the rain, the match was stopped and as a result the match was reduced to 10 overs per side.
Batting first, George Bailey’s men were superb as they were able to post 106 runs in their 10 overs. The hosts had 34 runs before the first wicket fell – that of Wriddihman Saha (32) at the hands of David Wiese. Manan Vohra (11) became the second wicket to fall, taken by Harshal Patel.
Glenn Maxwell (10) became the second wicket to fall in the hands of Patel. He and Yuzvendra Chahal both took two wickets, while Mitchell Starc and Wiese took one wicket each. Bailey’s men finished their last over with 106/6 on the board. Axar Patel finished with 20 not out.
Having a target of 107 runs to obtain from 10 overs, Royal Challengers were not successful in their run chase. They finished the 10th over with only 84 runs on the board. Chris Gayle (17) and Kohli (19) had a partnership of 33 runs before Kohli fell at the hands of Anreet Singh. The second wicket to fall was that of Gayle courtesy of Sandeep Sharma.
AB De Villiers and Mandeep Singh were both taken by Patel with 67 runs on the board. The last wicket to fall was that of Safari Khan taken by Singh.
