A brace from Geerge Lebese helped Kaizer Chiefs to a 2-1 win over AmaZulu in an Absa Premiership clash at Moses Mabhida Stadium Wednesday night. Usuthu had some early pressure with successive corners, but Amakhosi kept clearing. Bongani Ndulula had an early chance to put the hosts in the lead from a left wing cross, but Brilliant Khuzwayo saved from close range.
Chiefs had control of the ball with a few attempts of their own but nothing reached the target. Ndulula put the home side in an unlikely lead as the pressure paid off at last. Siphiwe Tshabalala almost levelled matters just before half-time with a long range effort, but Tapuwa Kapini saved to preserve the lead for AmaZulu.
Lebese equalised in the early minutes of the second half with a shot from the edge of the box. Mandla Masango almost gave Stuart Baxter’s boys the advantage with a shot from range, but his ball was blocked and fell to Tshabalala, whose attempt was easily saved. Lebese sealed another win for the Soweto Glamour boys from close range after Tshabalala’s free-kick struck the crossbar.
While it was yet another victory for Baxter’s side, it was also yet another defeat for the Durbanites.
